SGST takes action against 12 traders in past one month

The State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) department has taken action strict against the tax evaders. In the last one month, search operations have been carried out on eight traders in Aurangabad and Jalna. Four shops were also raided and some important documents have been seized from the establishment. According to officials, the preliminary investigation will reveal tax evasion of around Rs 1 crore.

The SGST office here covers Aurangabad, Jalna and Beed districts. The department collects a large amount of revenue. However, the officials received information that some traders have been evading taxes for the past few days. Therefore, the officials started keeping a close eye on the traders and establishments. Under the guidance of joint commissioner of state tax R S Jagtap, deputy commissioner Ravindra Jogdand and his team launched a special operation.

The department took action against eight persons, including four grocery traders, a dry fruit seller, a spice trader and a textile trader in Aurangabad and Jalna. Search operations also took place at the shops, establishments and warehouses of the traders. The operation was carried out in the last one month, in which documents related to sale and purchase, bill books and other important documents were seized by the team. For the past three days, the team has been conducting simultaneous search operations at the establishments of four traders in the city who are involved in selling tobacco products. The team comprises 25 employees and officers.

Investigation underway

Meanwhile, a preliminary investigation has revealed that more than Rs 1 crore has been evaded in these 12 cases, sources said. When asked about this, the officials said that they are conducting a thorough investigation into all the cases and more information will be given only after the completion of the investigation.
