The solid waste management cell of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has geared up to elevate the status of city in Cleanliness Survey 2021. The city has secured 45th rank in the last year. To scale up the ranking order, the civic officials will be fully focused on the processing of garbage through its various in December. The Cleanliness Survey squad is likely to visit the city in last week or first week of January for the survey.
As reported earlier, the state government to get rid of garbage menace had sanctioned Rs 148 crore to AMC for implementation of effective solid waste management in the city. Of which, the civic body had received Rs 80-90 crore. Meanwhile, the AMC had utilised a portion of the fund in starting of the garbage processing plant at Chikalthana. For the past one and a half year, the garbage of 150 metric tones capacity is being processed at this plant. The processing of 150 MT quantity of garbage has also started at Padegaon. The construction of the processing plant at Harsul is underway. After focussing on garbage processing in December as per the parameters of the survey, the AMC will also go for the beautification of the city in a month.
Training in posh localities
The AMC will soon be imparting training to residents staying in big localities. They will be apprised on how to process the garbage generated daily in their houses. They will also be encouraged to utilise the fertiliser made after processing of garbage by them. Some localities have come forward for the training, said the head of solid waste management cell Nandkishore Bhombe.
Rag-pickers play an important role in managing solid waste in the city. The AMC introduced Wall of Humanity (Manuskichi Bhint) in Diwali festival. The citizens in large number donated their surplus or unused items lying in their homes. These items were shared with the sanitary workers or others, who deprived of it. However, the AMC will implement such a scheme during the whole year to see how they could procure unused items in large number for these rag-pickers. The people will be discouraged from throwing them into garbage bins.
