The water supply officials of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) have undertaken the task of repairing the 700 mm size pipeline, which was damaged near SSC Board, today early morning. The AMC team succeeded in procuring cement rings (to be used as joints) from Dhule on Thursday night. The pipeline was damaged yesterday at 6.30 am.
It may be noted that the old water supply scheme was previously maintained by Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP). As a result, the civic officials pressed old MJP personnel to repair the damage. The work is expected to be continued till Saturday night. Meanwhile, the majority of areas in the old city are without water and would continue till the task is completed.
The damaged pipeline is of cement concrete. An oblong size hole has emerged in the pipeline of length seven metres. The sudden damage to pipeline caused overflowing of water on the road in the vicinity. Acting on the information, the executive engineer Kiran Dhande and the deputy engineer K M Phalak immediately stopped the water supply. The pipeline is old and its size is odd, therefore, the cement rings (joints) through which the hole will be sealed was not available in the city. As a result, AMC sent a team to Dhule on Thursday at 5 pm. Dhande along with deputy engineer Baviskar reached Dhule in the vehicle at night, procured the cement rings and other necessary materials and returned to the city on Friday at 4 am.
" The repairing work is undertaken on top priority. The AMC hired old MJP personnel Tejrao Mankape, Bhanudas Kharat and Sayaji Jadhav as they were working with MJP when the AMC''s water supply scheme was with the old custodian. The task will continue till Saturday night," said Dhande.
Meanwhile, the pipeline which has been damaged supply''s water to the old city. However, the water supply has been stopped since Thursday morning. As a result, the majority of the citizens from the old city are forced to live without water, even on Friday, said the sources. While some areas got the water late by 6-7 hours than their schedule.
